Led the manufacturing and design of Queen's Relectric's first electric go-kart, a converted gas chassis that placed 5th overall out of 21 teams. Now co-leading a 120+ member team on the battery system and aerodynamics for next season.
The Problem
Queen's Relectric took on a first-of-its-kind project: converting a purchased gas-powered go-kart chassis into a fully custom electric race vehicle. It was the team's first entry, and we were the only international team competing that year.
My Approach
As Assembly Lead in 2025, I led a team of 20 through the manufacturing and design of the full electric conversion. I built the custom electrical box, battery mount, and telemetry system myself, and made sure every subsystem cleared competition standards. I'm back for the 2025-2026 season as Co-Captain, now leading 120+ members on a custom battery management system, next-generation batteries, and the aerodynamic changes we identified after last year's race. That also means budgets, faculty communication, technical documentation, and the season timeline.
Outcome
In its first year competing, the team placed 3rd in efficiency, 4th in design, and 5th overall out of 21 teams. That's a strong result for a first-year, first-of-its-kind entry, especially as the only international team in the field. It's also the base we're building on for this year's 120+ member campaign.
